Buy the Right Tyre for Your Car

Getting the tight tyres for your car means you get a better performance out of it. But with hundreds of different patterns to choose from how do you know which ones are the best for you?

An online magazine recently tested tyres from 12 different brands covering anything from the premium to the budget and suitable for all cars from family hatchbacks to a new Aston Martin.

Maxxis Tires

The top performer was a tyre from Continental, the ContiSportContact 3 which performed well in all areas of the tests which included handling and breaking on wet and dry roads, aquaplaning and rolling resistance, i.e. the power needed to turn the tyre. Other top tyres came from manufacturers Michelin, Goodyear and Dunlop with some tyres performing better in wet conditions than others. Among the worst performers' where offerings from manufactures Runway and Maxxis, although all tyres tested performed well in one or more areas of the tests.

In the test of winter tyres however it was Goodyear that came out on top with their winter tyre Ultragrip 7+. Of the all-round tyres which you can use both in summer and winter the Vredestein's Quatrac impressed the test panel the most. Pure summer tyres where proven to perform badly in wintry conditions.

Pricewise, all-season tyres cost a fraction more than pure summer tyres do while winter specific tyres cost around £30-40 more. However, if the recent English winters with snow and ice continue it might be worth considering either investing in winter specific tyres or to fit the car with all-season tyres.

With its demand for skill and split-second timing, drifting presents huge challenges for drivers. For grassroots drifters, who must outfit their vehicles without major sponsorship, the sports challenges are even greater. A strong supporter of grassroots drifting, Maxxis has a message of encouragement for those drivers in a new YouTube video. Narrated by 2009 Formula Drift champion Chris Forsberg, the video tells a bit of the drivers compelling story. Forsberg recounts how he started in the sport without the advantages of wealth or motorsports connections, noting that his MA-Z1 Drift tires helped him along the way. Forsberg can be seen putting his tires to the test in the videos action sequences, which feature thrilling slides to the edge of the track. Offering unparalleled quality and control, MA-Z1 Drifts are the choice of the best drivers in the sport, including Forsberg and Ryan Tuerck, the top two Formula Drift drivers for 2009. Maxxis has also sponsored the drivers chosen as the series Driver of the Year for the past three years, who rode to the winners circle on MA-Z1 Drifts.
